BLINK 1 ETO'O 14-18 F.C. SE7EN - 15.10.20

Updated: Jan 29, 2021

WE DID IT! Our first win.

And boy did we deserve it after our winless streak.

A lot of positives from tonight's game, not just the match itself. We had a couple of last minute drop outs but we still had enough players to fill our team plus 1 for the opposition. We even caught SeanAA betraying us for another game, but we'll let him off this time haaa. It seems, gone are the days, when 1 or 2 drop outs, would derail our weekly game.

In terms of the 60mins, itself, we came out of the blocks running. Swiftly scoring within 3 mins! I'd say for half the game, pretty much everything came together for us as a team. At one point we were 8-2 up and very comfortable. Some of snazzy plays and tekkerz were just coming off time and time again

BUT, we did get complacent, and perhaps a little cocky, and it's something we need to take away from the game. Yes we won, but against tougher opponents, we would of been punished and quite easily the score may of been different, the losing run would of continued.

Frodo made an interesting comment post game about how it felt easier on the lungs when you are winning. He's not often right.....he flip flops a lot (I won't mention Mount Doom) but on this occasion I think he may of finally hit the nail on the head. He also probably scored the goal of the season so far, rounding and weaving past all their outfield players before blasting the ball into the top right corner of the onion bag.

Things have certainly improved for this hairy hobbit.

Overall, we're improving on a lot of levels, even I managed to out pace an elderly lady with her walking stick passing by the venue at one point, so we're not just winning, we're seeing miracles.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. I felt we were all probably technically better than the other team from within the first couple of minutes. I also saw early on, that it was almost like they were at the same position as us, in terms of their own fitness from when we started 6 weeks ago. It's strange how you see different players on their own different journeys and stages.

There's going to be many tougher opponents on the horizon but at the same time, we deserve to revel in our first win. Recognise credit where it is due, you can only beat what's in front of you. Personally, I don't think we would of won of any of our previous games on tonight's showing but the score lines might of been more respectable.

It's a long journey ahead of us and there's no rush.

We had debutant, Jan, stepping up for the game too, so any extra signups are always to be applauded, he's already whizzed in and signed up for our next game and notably nabbed the Hippo Award too, that's impressive. Jan says he exercises weekly, mainly aerobic, and he felt the burn afterwards. He probably could of walked away with the match ball too, if he had converted his 20 shots on goal!

Same again next week lads.

We're upping our numbers again, which is wicked, and was one of our primary goals (excuse the pun) and as a result, it's good to see a new faces from work too, to catch up and it's worth mentioning the off field positives we are achieving, as we slowly try to piece life together again, while this Covid pandemic still wreaks havoc.

Win or lose, we're all having loads of fun. We're a good team. I've played footy loads before when I was younger, and there were folks who took it way too seriously, to the point of impacting others enjoyment. It's NOT about that at FC7. We don't like losing, we want to win, but not at the expense of every single one of us having a great time first and foremost!

Plus, my nephew, had predicted a 30-8 whooping for us prior to the game...

...IN YOOO FACE CROCKETT.......

...Hmmm, unless he meant for our next game.
