F.C. SE7EN 13-13 TANGEROONEY - 01.04.21

Prelude

Hard fought draw....which makes a change from our usual defeats! Was an odd one tonight, as we had a great turnout so had to mix our teams up with our opponents. We have fun with these match results and graphics as we are mainly training ourselves up to join a league this year. That's the goal so we can regularly play proper organised opposition weekly šŸ˜Š

It was John S' testimonial from our workplace but I think he may now have the bug and we'll likely see him in FC7 colours again.āš½ļøāš½ļøāš½ļø

The real winner was all the players and teams across this green island....as we delivered a small blow against Covid-19. The enjoyment we all had tonight was immense. Not seeing each other for so long but still the bonds remain strong at FC7 and football showed how powerful a force for good it can be.

Pics to follow....We are ALL back!

Match Report

It's been a long hard winter without footy, so there's bound to be rustiness on the return. The day started out quite warm for the beginning of April, but turned quite nippy by the time we kicked off. We bought a new tripod, with malleable legs, so seemed rude not to try it out for our match. One of the issues so far, which you may of gathered, is that we all PLAY, so getting footage of our games has been troublesome. 1 game, Frodo, surprisingly was a bit ill (haha), so sat out and managed to get some nice photos, but other than, action has been something we have lacked.

The tripod worked brilliantly, we are still learning and this was primarily a test, but we got great video and photos, so hopefully you can gain a bit more of an insight into our games as we soldier. We will probably switch up the angles and position to add a bit of dynamism, so keep tuned.

To the game and this, as mentioned before, was a game very much a training session, than an outright match. One of our key goals this year is to join a league but after the Massacre of Westway last year, we realised how far we are off in terms of fitness and match readiness. So we need to focus on playing more as a team, understanding each other, and getting the fitness level up to a much higher standard.

The match proved how far off we are in terms of the basics. Our passing ability is really poor, and time and time again, move after move was telegraphed or astray. On too many occasions, we simply gave the ball away, wayyyyyy to easily. More often than not, it ended up in the back of our net. With 5-a-side football, the game is more net-to-net, we've mentioned before, that you're always going to concede several goals, score several goals, regardless of your ability, the key is keeping up with your opponents or etching out a lead slowly but surely. At the start of the game we slipped to a 6-1 deficit. You can't give any teams those kind of leads, with the mistakes we were making.

We evened the teams up around 15mins in and the game was much more competitive. From an FC7 angle, we were still making a lot of basic errors which we need to stub out over the next few months. But there were early signs of positivity too. Tey and Fatjet are starting to develop an understanding down the lines, there's a tidy 1-2 goal on the video, and that undid our opponents on a number of occasions. Billy's fitness is going to be a massive asset but we need to help out by all of us getting to that level, me mostly though haha. Mo, playing in his 3rd game is showing huge improvements, both technically and fitness-wise, and he'll only get better.

It was a tight game, probably the last 15mins (we overrun our slot by 15mins which was a bonus) the game ran away from us a little, we couldn't hold on to a lead, which we were guilty of so much last year. Again, silly mistakes, rather than our opponents efforts, so all of these things give us a lot to mull over.

Over time, I'm 100% sure there will be natural progression but this year we have to start showing that we can as individuals and as a team, start to learn from our mistakes. If we can do that, we can only improve. We've got such a huge gap to make up on league teams but it's a gap we can make up, surpass and make gains upon in the future, I can feel it.

A draw was a fair result, a few positives, many negatives but we did enough for a point. We'll play better opposition so we need to improve, and quick. 2 week break now, so we can only hope that everyone improves on their personal fitness until then.

Back to PF Shep Bush on the 15th, we came ever so close to breaking our individual match attendance record of 8 signups, but we had a couple of late pull outs, which was a shame. We talked about key goals for FC7 this year, and attendance is one of them. Getting players to actually play has been a challenge. I'm sure, that once you play your 1st game, then any love you once had for the game, comes flooding back. It's just getting people to take that first step. John S made his debut, is technically very good and his fitness will come. Unfortunately he can only make East LDN games, but we're looking to do more games there this year, so we can work on him haha.

During the 4 month lockdown in the UK, we had several new starters at our work place, so we garnered a lot of interest. It's a difficult time still, as shoots of life slowly re-appear after Covid-19, the roadmap out of lockdown seems to be holding up but there's still a lot of unknowns and no one dares guess the future. All going well, from the 21st June, "normal" life will hopefully be resumed, we may be back in the office from home working, so we may start to see some of the newer members out for a game, plus we have a few old timers that have been playing it safe at home with other commitments, so there's a big pool of hope at FC7.

We'll get a few more games under our belts and there's even a hope we can see a return of the Luca Charity Tournament this year, maybe just maybe. It's easy to forget how FC7 started. In the last year we have had, it makes the symbolism of our club even more important. For many of us, FC7 has been a beacon of light in dark times......hope when it seemed extinct.

It's not blowing our own trumpet, but we always wanted to make a difference, as a minimum, and we have. Good things are never easy, it's been a lot of hard work. To outsiders, it may sound like a childish endeavour, it's just football right? There's more important things in life. But are there? Through football we spread our ethos of kindness first as deeds, it's the doing not the words, we remember, we encourage teamwork, camaraderie, and these are all massively important traits in a person.

Join us at FC7 and make a difference for the better.
