FC7 Training Session - 29.04.21

Last week was tight, but clear winners this week. We're improving weekly a lot though, so everyone's a winner. We were chatting together after the game and we're all quite impressed that we can see physical differences, in our ability and our fitness.

In my opinion, last year, when we started in earnest, we were sussing each other out, the games we played were from individual POVs, there wasn't much of a team ethos. Don't get me wrong, training matches are hugely important, but there's a missing competitive edge, where we can't honestly track our progression, so will be interesting to see how fare when we come up against another team.

This game was really interesting, on paper we split the teams on what was a even keel, but one side were clearly more clinical, and were good at keep possession. It's a bonus, as it shows our weaknesses as a team, but also where we are improving.

Next week we play at Westway Sports Centre. The first time, well, since the Massacre of Westway. Those 2 games we played against league sides, were enough to mentally break some players, we haven't seen SeanAA since, so it will be a chance to exorcise some ghosts. It's not necessarily about winning, but being competitive, I don't mind losing but would be good to put up more fight, it will be a marker to put down on our team progress.

Westway is a good venue, as they have 5,6,8,9 and 11-a-side pitches. It means that if our signups continue to rise, we have options to expand our games. But at the same time, we can't pander to increased turnout unless people sign up and sign up quick, we're trying to drill this ethos in.

We want people to have Thursday nights down as footy night in concrete. We know people have appointments that are unavoidable but we want to push out the idea, the footy is in your diary for Thursday nights. If someone asks you out for beer, you say, not tonight, I'm with FC7. That's our next challenge, to make our weekly game more concrete and for people to take it a little more seriously. We've got a good foundation but can't afford to stop and sit back and pat ourselves on the back.

Bring on next Thursday, a potential FC7 match vs Westway Sports Club.
