Nike Tiempo Legend 8

Updated: Mar 28, 2021

Love these boots, end of review. They represent the best of both worlds, everything about the Tiempo just ticks boxes, it delivers on so many fronts, it's hard to not call these boots one of the greatest ever. The most amazing thing is that it does everything so well, without much fanfare or pizazz.

Some people like oldskool leather cleats, others the new synthetic ones with all the bells and whistles. The Tiempo Legend, is the middle ground. It has the more traditional soft kangaroo leather upper but under the bonnet, the inner features a flyknit tunnel which wraps around your mid foot to aid lockdown and works impressively in overall comfort.

Leather uppers soften over time and stretch a lot, but because of the interior tunnelling sock, the stretch doesn't impact the fit you feel game in game out. The flip side, is that leather moulds to your foot shape over time, so you lose that personalisation. The quadfit sock does a good job in imitating that feel though.

FIT: True-to-Size. There seems to be quite a big step up between the sizing on the Tiempo. I tried out 9.5, which were just too tight and unwearbale. But size 10s were perfect. So comfortable, the flyknit tunnel, I was worried would be too restrictive, but it's great. It's not obtrusive, but you feel it makes a difference. The elite price tier has a flyknit trim round the the ankle which is a lovely touch and adds another level of lockdown. Because of the great value for money that the Tiempo offers, I'd stick with the Elite tier, the rest just aren't worth it.

The soleplate isn't too revolutionary, its a fairly standard flat AG plate. There's nothing wrong with this, the Nike ones are probably the best out there. The boot itself is pretty cool looking too, I love the middle black lacing pattern, made famous by elite level players like Alisson, Vertonghen, Lloris and Van Dijk.

The pricing for these boots is £120 but I managed to get them for £80. This isn't unusual, so an Elite boot for that price, represents huge value for money.

Overall, I think these are the best boots I have got. They sit in the perfect middle ground, modern features, with a splash of old fashioned charm. When I say they are the best, I mean they are most comfortable.

The boot, under the hood, has great modern features which work, and are not gimmicks. I feel nowadays, you do need a bit of tech to improve your game, but if you're not sure what you really need from a boot these deliver a bit of everything. So this is why I big the Tiempo up, defenders favour them, for the stability but the weight is heavier, so others who are forwards may opt for the ultra light Mercurial or the Predators.

For myself, the ultra-comfort, straight out of the box and all the innovation that delivers, was the winning combinations for me.

The Tiempo will come be to be a timeless classic...
