It's been a difficult few months at FC7. Although we have progressed as a club/community/collective, storm clouds had been slowly gathering.
We had taken part in our first ever tournament as FC7, and although it was a baptism of fire, much fun was had by all. We learnt loads of lessons, both on and off the pitch but above all, had a blast.
But since then, there's a been a bit of upheaval, mainly out of our hands. There seemed to be an appetite for Tuesday football, which meant a dropdown in the quality of our regular weekly venue. But as it turned out, the same losers who called for Tuesday, unsurprisingly didn't attend. Frankly it was the last time we were gonna listen to those useless idiots.
It's been the same thing at my place of work. One of our key visions each year, is to recruit more players primarily for the weekly game, in the hopes that we would be getting 7-10 players each time round. But secondarily, so we can start to flesh out the 2G group. The one thing we learnt from the FA Tournament is that we barely scraped a team. But essentially, at it's foundation, it's a matter of statistics.
The more quality players you have a pool of. All wanting to play competitive football........the more will be likely to commit and play when tournaments come round. Long term, if we want to join a league, we can finally guarantee 100% that we have a team of 5 at the very least.
Often I tell people starting at work, that we play football on Thursdays, and I go to a lot of effort to explain all the details to them, add them to the whatsapp group, only to never see them on the green surf.
It's time I'm dedicating to people that we have no idea whether they will ever play or not. This is time which can be best spent elsewhere. The same applies to the WhatsApp group in general. There's too much chaff and not enough wheat. Time spent by me and others, is being wasted on people who frankly are either dumb, lazy, or dickheads.
Enough is enough!
A few people at the office, I've been quite quick to showcase the footy we have created and frame it as a workplace kickaround.
How dare they hijack, something they have had nothing to do with?
This is FC7, and FC7 only. This belongs to no one, let alone the office. If people want football, love it and are committed to it.....then they can find it.....themselves. It's high time that people get up off their arses and did something in their lives. I'm chasing or begging people anymore, its a fruitless usage of my time. If these people some-how find themselves in our WhatsApp group, then that's because they have shown a willingness to get involved. No more free rides.
Although getting 10/10 players each week for a 5aside is the pinnacle.....I've secretly been wanting lower figures. 7 or 8.
Why?
Because 7 or 8 players is enough for us, as FC7, to control the narrative of a game, decide on fairly even teams pre-game so we don't waste time swapping players during the match and ultimately have loads of fun. But the other reason, is that we might meet the odd player who isn't in our group. One or two we can add to our group, or better still, invite to our 2G group. Like I said before, its a matter of statistics.
The stats don't lie. Hardly anyone from work plays footy weekly. So why waste resources? Weekly any randoms for a start are playing footy, and have accounts with Footy Addicts, so its obvious they love football. They are doing........as oppose to talking. Now is the time, to start recruiting those who want to play football.......and ignore the ones who just like talking about it.
So far we have recruited about 10 extra players. I'd say 7/8 of them are potential 2G players.
We're fast approaching the end of 2022. We've already achieved so much, we played the Annual FA Tournament, we're about to take part in the Business5s 5-a-side Corporate Charity Tournament and we have arranged a rematch of the IT vs FINANCE game.
But I already have eyes firmly set for plans in 2022. Getting the best side possible ready for the 2023 FA Tournament, joining a league and looking at more inter company games and other tournaments. There's loads to look forward to......and it's there for everyone of you. You need only get up, step forward and grasp it with both hands...
