Where do you even begin? How important is football at tragic moments in life like this?
Perspective really kicks in.
But then when I started to think about it more and more. Did it?
Football has it’s ills but it also has a far stronger power to unite people. Surely this would be a great way of bringing people together in the aftermath of such shocking news.
Given our experiences of trying to organise just 5 players, I was apprehensive.
But this wasn’t about me, self doubt and rubbish people. This was about giving something back to his family. About celebrating his life. About football bringing people together.
So I threw caution to the wind………and pressed the “Send” button.
Several days had passed and our HR department called me in……….Haha…….this could of gone pear-shaped in so many ways.
But it didn’t!
I wasn’t in trouble. They had sounded my idea of a mini-football tournament to the leadership team and his family………and thought it was a great idea and the perfect way to commemorate our colleague.
I just had to organise it now…well that's another post entirely!
